Hi forum!

I've been following the discourse around Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim's new documentary You Can See Everything which has turned into A24's new hit. The more I read about their marketing strategy, the more I'm convinced we'll be talking about how this movie was made and presented to the world for a long time.

I have not been lucky enough to see it yet, but this Elizabeth Holmes documentary has taken the internet by storm. They decided to premiere in secret at Telluride - audiences had no idea what they had signed up for, and I can't imagine anyone predicted it was this! With more than 3 hours of running time, this doc only received raving reviews. It is now the movie with the best score on Letterboxd. It is fascinating to see how careful all reviewers are not to spoil anything. The teasers and trailers released officially don't give very much away either. Still, seats are sold out everywhere.

You Can See Everything was the second highest grossing movie at the box office this past weekend, and it was only a limited release. $15 Million from just 855 theatres. In the UK, movie theatres said this had been the most requested film ever. In Spain, where I am based, it is set to be released next February, but I have a hunch it will be much earlier.

This movie cost less than $10M to make AND market. Perhaps an example going forward that, in marketing, less can be more.

Thoughts?
